World Urban Pavilion Marks 4th Anniversary with Global Leaders, New Report, and Renewed Commitment to Urban Transformation

Toronto, Canada , April 21, 2026 , The World Urban Pavilion (WUP) celebrated its 4th Anniversary with a landmark gathering of global leaders, reaffirming its role as a living platform for advancing on Urban SDGs.

At the heart of the celebration was a message from the Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, underscoring the importance of inclusive, resilient, and forward-looking cities in shaping national and global prosperity. “  The World Urban Pavilion plays an important role in promoting these efforts and in strengthening partnerships that help shape a better future for cities and the people who call them home.”

A special highlight was the presence of Elizabeth Dowdeswell, whose reflections captured the spirit and trajectory of the Pavilion:

“This is a story of vision and determination, bold ambition. Each step demonstrates that place matters. Through research, creativity, and shared knowledge, a global network has emerged. In these uncertain times, the humility and courage to listen to one another will help pave the way toward a more resilient world that works for everyone.”

The celebration also featured remarks from Mitchell Cohen, CEO of The Daniels Corporation, who emphasized both the urgency of global challenges and the enduring role of the Pavilion as a space of optimism and action:

“Despite the extraordinary challenges we face, the World Urban Pavilion remains a powerful source of hope,bringing people together to find common ground and common cause. The cause is simple: to create communities where everyone is welcome, where everyone belongs, and where all have the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive—affordable, accessible, inclusive, and sustainable.”

The anniversary event also reflected the Pavilion’s strength as a multi-stakeholder platform, bringing together a diverse group of partners, institutions, and community leaders. The program featured contributions from civic leadership, including representatives from the City of Toronto and international municipalities such as Lowell, Massachusetts, alongside global institutions like the United Nations. Cultural expression and community voice were present through a poetry reading by and the signing MOU with the Regent Park Neighbourhood Association, reinforcing the Pavilion’s people-centered approach. The agenda also highlighted strategic announcements and partnerships—from the recognition of Madeira as the first Frontrunner Island in Portugal, to the introduction of the Zen Forest Da Lat global initiative on ECO-tourisem,announcement of partnership with Aura from Jordan demonstrating the Pavilion’s ability to connect local action with global transformation pathways.

Reflecting on the Pavilion’s origins and purpose, Reza Pourvaziry, Chair of the Urban Economy Forum, noted:

“The Pavilion was conceived not as a symbolic initiative, but as a strategic mechanism—bridging global urban dialogue with tangible, city-level execution. It is a platform designed to structure collaboration, align actors, and translate shared knowledge into implementable transformation.”
